Early Records of Snipe Class Registration
The Rudder magazine published Snipe class news from 1931 through
part of 1947, after which the independently published Jib Sheet
magazine assumed this task. The monthly issues reported not only
Snipe fleet news, but also recorded registrations of Snipes and
fleets with SCIRA. Excerpts of selected issues containing Snipe
class news have been obtained from the Archives and Collections
Society [A&CS] of Picton, Ontario CANADA .
Most January issues of The Rudder have been received, from 1933
through 1947, reporting the total number of Snipes registered
with SCIRA at the end of the preceeding year. This information
is reported below, to help owners of older Snipes "bracket" the
year in which their boat was built/registered, and to form a baseline
of the development of the class. We hope you will find this information
interesting and useful.
