Welcome to District 2 - the West Central District!

Allow me to quote from Ted Wells, an illustrious District 2 Snipe sailor (Wichita, KS), past Commodore, Chairman of the Rules Committee for over 30 years, winner of most of our championships, author of Scientific Sailboat Racing.

"Many people on the coasts wonder how skippers sailing on lakes that are not even big enough for a good yacht anchorage can frequently do much better in big regattas that they should. The answer is simple - practice. With short courses and numerous laps, there is lots of practice rounding marks. And when you have to tack every few minutes or run out of lake, you get lots of practice coming about. The boats are bound to be closely grouped - they haven’t any place to go - so you get lots of practice on rules and competitive tactics. Also, the skippers are delighted to get a chance to race on somebody else’s mud puddle, so they frequently pack their boats on trailers and make round trips of 500 to 1000 miles over a weekend for a regatta."

We’ve got some great regattas planned this year - Dallas, Lincoln, Denver (BowMar, Cherry Creek and Union Reservoirs) and Omaha.

Come join us for good times and good racing. If you would like more information about Snipe sailing in the ten fleets of the West Central District, please contact me.

Fair winds and good sailing!

Doug Swenson
District Governor
